Hoka OneOne Odyssey try-on

We just got these in at the store, and I tried them on alongside a pair of Clifton 2's in my size. The Odyssey is notably more cushioned and despite the tech details on Hoka's site, the Odyssey feels like the stack height is larger. Compressed EVA (Clifton 2) vs full-length EVA (Odyssey) ? I really think that the Clifton 2 is a faster shoe with less cushion. Each one will have a huge number of fans. Each sells for $130. Great shoes from an awesome company.

Thursday Push, Legs & Hoka OneOne Clifton 2

Push & Leg day at the gym in this shortened (for me) week

  • bench
  • OHP
  • decline press
  • Arnolds
  • machine chest press, ladders
  • close-grip bench press
  • leg press
  • leg extension
  • hamstring curl*
I've got a high hamstring pull so I'm very conservative on leg days. Hamstring curl is about 10% of what I normally do.

So I've tried on the new Hoka OneOne Clifton 2, and it's probably going to be my next daily trainer or at least go into my shoe rotation.  8.3 oz with a 5mm drop. They feel more cushioned than the original, and the padded tongue makes the shoe really comfortable even if you have a high instep.  The structural overlays improve midfoot support, the ride remains basically unchanged, and the road-focused outsole includes strategically placed rubber pods to improve durability. I will probably go through a tube of Shoe Goo keeping them on my feet for 500 miles, but it will be worth it.

WOMEN:
  • GEOMETRY:
  • Offset: 5mm
  • Heel: 28mm
  • Forefoot: 23mm
  • WEIGHTS:
  • 7.2 oz / 203 g
MEN:
  • Offset: 5mm
  • Heel: 29mm
  • Forefoot: 24mm
  • WEIGHTS:
  • 8.3 oz / 235 g

    June 23, 2015 Tuesday

I am over my cold & laryngitis but started back easy with a 5 mile run, then push day at the gym:
    • Bench
    • Standing OHP
    • Arnolds
    • Decline Bench
    • Tricep rope pushdown

Shoes: Hoka Bondi 3 with about 750 miles on them

Other gear: testing SPIbelt large pocket size, wondering if we should carry these at the store . I put car/housekeys, iPhone 6 in a ziplock bag, and Driver's License in the SPIbelt and enjoyed using it. Nothing really bounced around and it was very inconspicuous. Felt natural to run with it. I've been carrying my phone/ID for a long time now on my runs & this is an excellent solution. I'll add a video tomorrow.

Chase The Hooch Open Water Swim

I swam the Chase The Hooch open-water swim and placed 2nd in the men's 1 mile division. Lots of fun, perfectly organized as usual by TriColumbusGA. This is the 3rd or 4th time I've swam the 'Hooch and it's been great each time. My time was 28:44 for the mile... interesting since that had been a common time during my 1-mile lap swims.
